Just ensure it’s visible and connected to the ignition-on circuit for accurate readings. → Does the meter start counting only when the engine is running?Yes. It’s wired to begin tracking when the ignition is on—so it records only active engine hours, not idle time. → Why do I need an hour meter on my Yamaha outboard if I don’t use it daily?Because wear happens over runtime, not time on the calendar. Knowing your engine hours helps keep up with service intervals, especially if you run your boat seasonally or sporadically.
